CONSERVATION OF WORKS OF ART ON PAPER
PAPERMAKING WITH GANGOLF ULBRICHT, TEOLO, ITALY
PAPER, PIGMENTS & PEARLS: ICON NEWS MAGAZINE, MARCH 2016
A one-month internship at the Old Library, Magdalene College, included working on the stabilisation on the Nicolas Ferrar print collection. There are 561 engravings in total, which have various conservation needs; some require surface only cleaning whilst others are more structurally unstable and need repairs. The prints will be housed in polyester enclosures once treated, which will allow them to be accessed without further deterioration occurring during handling.
Special thanks go to Dr M.E.J.Hughes, Catherine Sutherland and Richard Farleigh (Prints & Drawings Conservator at the Fitzwilliam Museum) who have helped made this project and my time at Magdalene College possible. More information can be found at the Magdalene College Libraries blog here.
